Things to do in and around Noosa

  • Noosa Main Beach

Noosa Main Beach is the location where you will be overwhelmed with clear blue water, white hot sand and beautiful horizons to gaze at.  The beaches were swarming with people but as it spread out for miles, there was more than enough space to lay our towels and relax in the heating sun while reading a book.

  • Noosa National Park, Coastal Walk

The Coastal walk in Noosa National Park is dazzling pretty, with surfers catching waves, alluring nature, palm trees and clear blue skies above us. After the Coastal walk we returned through the Tanglewood Track, and found ourselves in a divine (rain) forest.

Things to do in and around Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is a coastal town surrounded by National Parks, two hours north of Noosa. Don’t expect a fairy tale land with unicorns and lepricons searching gold here; Rainbow Beach has its name from the rainbow coloured sand dunes.

It felt like we went back to basic during our stay at Pippies Backerpackers, where we slept in a big tent. Most backpackers who stay Rainbow Beach are all awaiting their trip to Fraser Island, so there really isn’t that much to do.

  • Great Sandy National Park

On Sunday we woke up early to visit The Great Sandy National Park. You can walk the whole park on a five day trip, but as we only had a few hours, we did the small walk to the Carlo Sandblow LookoutAfter an hour walking through the forest, we walked onto a large sand dune with a breathtaking view of the ocean.

  • Meeting Locals

In the evening, we decided to go for a walk on the beach, but when we walked outside our room, we saw some young locals sitting in the garden, with snakes around their necks! I was in complete awe. I held a blue tongue skink and a small python snake in my hand. In the beginning it was terrifying, as the snake curled up around my wrist and as it tried to find an anchor to hold itself up, started to tighten around my skin. After a few minutes I got comfortable with him, and he with me, and soon the snake was relaxing between my fingers.

Let’s just state that our last night was more exciting than another beachwalk.
