Why Hoi Ann is my favorite part of Vietnam

This historical city of lights of Hoi Ann will lure you in straight away. I had one night booked and ended up staying for one week.

The first hostel I lived was the Sunflower Hostel, an old house turned into hostel with swimming pool and a buffet style breakfast to die for! No seriously, it’s that good. The bar offers an incredible deal: you pay 100.000 Vietnamese Dong (€4) for a mixer drink and you get a bottle of rum or vodka. Quite a dangerous deal, but you’re on a holiday, right? Across the street is Lava Bar and Restaurant, where you can enjoy a free drink every night! Vietnam’s happy hours are very solid to say the least.

The last few days we moved to Flame Flower Homestay, a quiet but beautifully renovated house a few minutes away from the Old Quarter. The family was so lovely and helpful, but did not get that many visitors because they only opened recently. I would definitely recommend Flame Flower Homestay to anyone visiting Hoi An! Tip: you can rent bicycles for free! Take a trip to the beach, it’s only a 10 minute drive.

Hoi An is mostly known for their tailored clothes. You simply walk into any one of the dozen shops you come across, find a design and pattern, get your measurements taken and a few days later, voila, your new dress in ready! If you get some more items you can discuss a good price!

At night make your way down to the Old Quarter and walk over the Japanese Bridge where the streets and river are covered with colorful and decorative lanterns. Then wander down to the markets and enjoy some of the fine street food.
